60-72 C10 Hood Hinge Installation Guide

STEP ONE:

Remove front wheels, inner fenders, hood and factory hood hinges.

STEP TWO:

Apply masking tape to cowl in the center, and both side where hinges will be located.

STEP THREE:

Find center of cowl. Then measure out 23 inches from center, and mark this point on your masking tape, this will be the center of mounting point for hinges.

STEP FOUR:

Locate cowl plate in the center of your line and an eighth inch down from the top of cowl.

STEP FIVE:

Once cowl plate is located trace the holes and center notch with a marker, these holes will need drilled/cut. Use a 3/8” drill bit to drill the 4 holes on each side. Drill pilot holes in top and bottom of center notch, and drill to 5/8” with a step drill bit. Cut from hole to hole with a body saw or small cut off wheel, this will allow the hinge arm to pass through the cowl.

(If installing on 60-66 you must cut a rectangle hole in cowl just large enough for hinge to drop in on your center line.)

STEP SIX:

Once all 6 holes and each slot for each hinge are drilled drop the hinge base into the cowl and align holes drilled in cowl, the cowl plate and hinge base sandwich the cowl for strength.

STEP SEVEN:

Install hardware and snug, do not tighten all the way at this time. Install the arms through the cowl and into the hinge base and secure shoulder bolt and lock nut snug but not tight.

STEP EIGHT:

Find center of inner hood brace and measure out 23” and sand off all paint 2” off each side of the center line, as the hood brackets will be welded to hood in this location. Re-install hood and set fender and cowl gaps. Once hood is aligned place hood brackets on hinges with hardware, fit to hood brace and tack weld each corner. Once your sure everything is aligned, remove hood and final weld hood brackets to hood. If you purchased the gas strut version you then can install the struts and tighten down all hardware.
